BREAKING: JETHAWKS SEASON EXTENDED
After losing to Unity Twp. in the District 31 Semifinals, the Latrobe Legion players and coaches said good bye and parted ways with plans to reconvene later in the summer for a cookout. Little did they know, they would actually be getting back together in just a couple of days after a strange series of events. Unity went on to beat Irwin in the District finals, but both teams clinched bid to the Region 7 Tournament in Clearfield by making the championship game. Per American Legion rules, a team must have 12 players to be eligible to participate in Regional play. On Wednesday, just three days before the start of the tournament, Irwin was forced to drop out of Regionals due to not having enough players. A solution was agreed upon when league officials decided that District 31 semifinalists Murrysville and Latrobe would play one seven-inning game to determine who would be the second team to represent Westmoreland County in Clearfield. The game will be played Thursday at 5:30 pm at Haymaker Park as Murrysville was the higher seed in the playoffs. The winner of the game will move on to the Region 7 Tournament and play Claysburg at 1 pm @ Lawrence Twp. Rec Park.
